Get Windows 8 Pro for $14.99 without Windows 7 product key

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could get the new and better Windows 8 Pro for $14.99 even though you have bought your PC before 2 June 2012. Well it is possible! I just got my windows 8 serial number. By the way I got it for $12.96 which was specific to my country.

To get the offer you will need to follow these steps.

  1. Get a computer which had windows 7 and an internet connection.
(NOTE: I am not sure if the windows 7 in the computer I used was bought/activate after 2 June 2012 or an OEM version)
  2. Open Internet explorer. This is an important step because for program participation validation purposes, the site collects some information about a user’s machine at browser-level, without identifying a user as an individual. This process can only be done using Internet Explorer. Initially the process failed for me as I was using Google Chrome.
  3. Go to http://windowsupgradeoffer.com/ and select you country.
  4. In the ‘Register for the Windows Upgrade Offer’ page fill in your ‘Personal Information’. In the ‘Windows 7 PC purchase information’ make sure you input a date after 2 June 2012 as the ‘Date of purchase’ and provide some arbitrary information for ‘Name of retailer’ and ‘PC Model’. In the ‘PC Brand’ dropdown I selected ‘Other’. Input the Security Check code and the Terms of Use and the Privacy Statement check box. Once done click Continue.

The next page should a show “Success!” message and your registration ID. Soon you will receive an email from [email protected] with the promo code inside it. If the offer validation was not successful you will end up in a page which will give you a Reference ID and ask you to input your Windows 7 product key.

The next series of steps involves the Microsoft ‘Download Upgrade Assistant’. Click here to download it. Run the application and follow the steps. Once you reach the ‘Confirm your order’ screen (See images below) input the promo code you received in the email. Immediately the discounted price will be show on the screen.

Continue to make the payment and you will receive the Windows 8 Pro product key in the final screen and a copy in your email.

One thing important thing that I noticed in the ‘Windows Upgrade Offer Registration Confirmation’ mail was a note which reads “Note: You must order your upgrade using the PC that you wish to upgrade.” I am not 100% sure if I will be able to upgrade my Windows Vista PC using this serial key. But as someone in this forum said the most important is the product key. As long as you have it, everything should be fine.

I will update here how thing went for me in my PC with Vista. Stay tuned..

So, you are basically suggesting that people lie on the form to get a “cheap” upgrade? Why not just go to a store and tuck the package under your coat? Does DZone really condone this type of post?

You get a code but not an iso download or disc in the mail?

You need to download the digital version of Windows 8 using the upgrade advisor. If you paid the extra charge they will send a DVD to you

I have a question regarding the buying and isntallation part..

    Do
i have to buy it AND install it on the same machine that i need Win 8
on… OR, can i just buy it online and get the product key and use any
ISO image (of Win 8) it to install on ANY machine?

    Am asking this
because some of my friends have slow internet connections. I hav
already bought and installed Win 8 on my machine. So i have the ISO
image that i downloaded. So can i use the same image to install on my friend’s machine (by buying the product key online like i stated earlier)

    Thanks.

So does this still work or has the “program” been disabled?
